v32.3: Happy New Year!

Howdy folks,

-slurp-

Yeah, here I am on the 8th of January wishing everyone a Happy New Year.  I've been quite busy lately and to be honest I don't even think of writing here until I'm doing something else.  This is something I hope to correct as a New Years resolution.

We rung in the New Year with a bang this year.  Actually several bangs.  Our neighbor had an impressive setup of fireworks in their backyard and a few minutes to midnight we headed out on the back deck to watch.  It was a nice night, a bit chilly outside but the rum made it feel like the middle of summer.  We watched the several dozen of fireworks go off and then headed inside to make fools of ourselves playing Wii Karaoke.  I'm sure the video will end up on YouTube someday.

As usual I didn't make any New Years resolutions.  I'm not a fan of them.  People always make these New Years resolutions only to feel disappointed in themselves the moment they slip up.  There needs to be something more when it comes to life altering changes.  There not only needs to be a desire, but there also needs to be motivation.  Personally, I find New Years a bad time to make such changes, but that is just me.

I have, however, decided to change the frequency of my blogging this year.  It seems I never have enough time to sit and write and it only takes a couple of days to go by before I realize I've missed over a week of writing.  This year I plan on writing at least once a week though I prefer to write once a day, I find that kind of commitment a bit much and my musing content starts getting a little weak as I run out of things to muse about.  I've been writing here for a few years now and I've changed my writing style a few times.  I try to be funny and witty while providing useless (and sometimes useful) information to my readers.  I've also tried providing self help a few times which seemed to get some good reviews.  Overall, this blog has underwent a lot of changes over the last few years and this year will be no different.

The first order of business is to find a decent theme for my site.  Those of you who have been reading my musings awhile know that I tend to change my theme every couple of months.  This current theme has lasted quite awhile and the big reason I leave it is because it works.  Mostly.  Once I find that perfect theme that really portrays what I want here, I'll make the switch.  Until then, I'll just leave this one up and keep looking.

Secondly, I plan on getting my other domain up and running.  No, not the fiendz domain.  I plan on getting my wowgeek.com site up and running to see if I can start generating some ad revenue.  I've brought it up here before and I'll bring it up again.  There are over 12 Million active subscribers playing World of Warcraft right now.  If you have even a fraction of those people visit your website and click on your ads, you stand to make a lot of money.  The hard part here is finding that niche you need to stand out.  There are a ton of WoW community websites out there so what can someone possibly do to stand out above the crowd and get the hits?  What kind of content could you possibly create that isn't regurgitated from other sites?  This is the only reason I haven't done anything with wowgeek.com yet and this year I plan on doing something.  There is a new expansion due to come out this year and this is the perfect time to get the site up and running.

Of course I have a lot of other things I want to do this year, but they are things I'll keep to myself for now.  Roll-up-the-Rim is due to start in a couple of months so I'm looking forward to rolling up the rim and musing about it every day.  This will be my 4th year rolling up the rim and blogging daily about it, so hopefully this year I can keep it up again.

Well folks, time to get back at it.  Hope you all have a great weekend and hopefully I'll be back Monday to say hi.  Remember, don't piss off the delivery guy who delivers your pizza.  The last thing you want is a pepperoni pizza with "special sauce".

Cheers,

Al

  3. The ads are auto generated so I'm not certain how you would change them. They are supposed to be driven off of the content on the page but that seems to only work sometimes. With each new post there should be new ads, provided I write about something different :)
