v43.3: A New Year

Howdy folks,

Merry HolidaysI'm sure I already have a musing with this title in here somewhere (have been doing this since November 2003 after all) but I figured what the hell.  Happy New Year!

-slurp-

I figure since it was a new year and we all survived the ending of the Mayan calendar and the afore-mentioned end of the world, I should probably write something.  I could sit here and make up any number of excuses as to why I haven't written:

  1. I figured the word was going to end anyway so why waste the last of my days writing to only have it all burn up in an apocalyptic ending.

  2. I misplaced my keyboard

  3. I've been tied up in the basement of a crazy Musings over Coffee fan who has been making me write personal, erotic musings just for them (-slurp- {shudder})

  4. All of the above

In all seriousness, I really haven't been inspired to write these days.  Every time I look at the site I try to think up some brainy, witty thing to write about and my mind goes blank.  Then the words of my mother echo through my head, "I hope your kids grow up to be just as bad as you so you can see what it feels like!".  Wait, that has nothing to do with what I was trying to convey.  Oh well, I guess what I'm trying to say is I have no good excuse for not writing for the past few months other than I'm just lazy and uninspired.  Over the holidays I put a lot of thought into it, I read a few of the articles on "Write to Done" and I spoke to some people.  The end result was a semi-New Year's resolution to write "something".

Those of you who know me know I'm not a big fan of New Year's resolutions.  That said, I decided to give writing a semi-New Year's resolution to see how it goes.  I don't know how long it will last, but it will get you at least one musing out of me this year :)

-slurp-

I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season.  If you celebrated Christmas, I hope Santa found you and didn't scare you in the middle of the night as he went through your stuff.  Personally I think we are much too trusting of letting a fat man with a sooty beard rummage through our houses while we're asleep.  When you sit and think about that, it almost begs people to break into our houses on Christmas eve and steal all our stuff.  I mean who's going to get up if they hear rummaging around on Christmas eve?  I know I wouldn't; I would stay snug in my bed knowing that good ol' St Nick was there.  Wouldn't I be surprised the next morning when I sprang from my bed all my stuff was gone :)

Of course, I merely jest.

-slurp-

Well folks, just a short one today.  I had to spend a bit of time fixing up the site due to an upgrade complication over the holidays.  I think I fixed most of the issues so hopefully things look good from your end.  If you are seeing any problems with the site (formatting issues, error/warning messages, etc.) please don't hesitate to contact me.  Until next time, please don't run with scissors.  It may seem like fun and exciting at the time, but think of the poor spider who's web you've just inadvertently cut due to your negligence.

Cheers,

Al

v37.5: The Big Clean

Howdy folks,

-slurp-

It is Friday and I'm working from home.  I'm glad I have the option to work from home when needed.  There are only so many vacation and sick days one can take in a given year and "wasting" those on days where there are doctor appointments makes me annoyed.  The flexibility  at work makes the work that much more bearable.

v37.3: Back to Basics

Good morning folks,

-slurp-

I have been musing over coffee for quite awhile now.  I've some fairly good entries and some real bad ones.  There have been grammatical errors, spelling mistakes and just bad information all around.  I don't care.  Musings Over Coffee is my way of putting it all out there, on the screen for everyone to read.  I've had some nasty comments, I've hurt some feelings and have made some people angry with me.  Initially I let things like this bother me until I remembered that these are my thoughts and you can never please everyone.

v32.9: Forever Friday

Good morning folks,

-slurp-

It's Friday! Don't you wish every work day could feel like Friday? I guess it would start to get old, after all, we look forward to Fridays for a reason.

v32.3: Happy New Year!

Howdy folks,

-slurp-

Yeah, here I am on the 8th of January wishing everyone a Happy New Year.  I've been quite busy lately and to be honest I don't even think of writing here until I'm doing something else.  This is something I hope to correct as a New Years resolution.

v31.8: Happy Times

Good morning folks,

-slurp-

It has been awhile (again).  I find I am constantly struggling with the right time to sit down and post here as things have been quite hectic here at work and home.  Seems like whenever I have spare time to write, I find something "better" to do.  It's called prioritizing and yes, I have issues with that.

v31.6: Long Time

Good morning folks,

-slurp-

Long time no write.  Or I should say, long time no write a musing.  November has been a very busy month for me.  Work has taken up a good chunk of my time and I've been working longer than usual hours every day.  In addition to that, I've also been taking part in NaNoWriMo.

v30.8: The Week End

Good morning folks,

-slurp-

Another work week is quickly coming to an end (for most of us) and the relaxing days of the weekend are almost here.  I worked every day this week and I felt every single one.  In fact, by Wednesday, I felt like I had worked an entire week already so imagine my disappointment to learn it was only Wednesday.  I hate long weeks, more than I hate dead rats in heating ducts.

v30.2: Break from Breaking Free

Good morning folks,

-slurp-

Work has been quite busy this week and I've had very little time to think about Musing.  This week, tough a short work week, has brought many new and old challenges and as a result my mind has not been on musing, but it has been on writing.

-slurp-

writingThough busy this week, I was able to take a step in the right direction toward writing.  I've signed up to an online collaboration site where I can begin to write articles and exercise my writing skills; while at the same time provide some much needed help to my fellow man.  This is my "foot in the door" so-to-speak and I'm really looking forward to being contributing.

-slurp-

Where is this magical place I speak of?  As of this week I am officially a member of the eHow community, and while it is free to sign-up and get started, it isn't easy coming up with a unique "How to..." for people.  I have a lot of ideas I'd like to publish there but I need to sort things out and ensure my delivery is clean and well structured.  If you're a resident of the United States, you can even earn cash when you write for eHow, but only if you have a good "How to...".

-slurp-

This where you come in.  I'm looking for some ideas and suggestions for my first posts to the eHow community.  I'm working on a much larger project which consists of a list of "To-Dos" that need to happen first.  My first goal is to have my writing published somewhere other than here.  You see, anyone can run a blog and call their work "published"; god knows my friend Gnomie does it :)  I need to have something a little more "official" in my pocket which will help me later down the road.

-slurp-

hotairballoonsAnyway folks, I need to run and get some work done.  We plan on heading out of town this weekend to see some Hot Air Balloons and visit with family.  Hopefully the weather is good for it.  The last year we went to the Balloon Fiesta in my home town it ended up being too windy and the Balloonists were hesitant to do any flying.  This year there is going to be an impressive lineup of Balloons to see including the Peanut guy from Planter's.  I can't wait.

Cheers,

Al
